Fluctuations in motivation are very common. Motivation for various activities and behaviours dips from time to time. Maybe it coincides with a restless sleep, brief illness, temporary stressors or a busy week.
Persistent fluctuating motivation can be frustrating however, especially when it interferes with goal achievement, deadlines or relationships.
Identifying the cause of ongoing motivation issues can be very useful. Causes of fluctuating motivation can be extremely varied. Motivation may be influenced by mood, previous experiences, activation, nerves, commitment, enjoyment, lack of goal attainment, pressure, personality variables, seemingly unrelated life circumstances or lack of appropriate challenge to list a few.
You could try to increase motivation by setting or revising realistic short-term goals or journaling the benefits of / reasons you chose to be involved in the activity.
